Electrolysis

Look and feel your best with safe, permanent hair removal in NYC

Everyone wants to look their best and feel more comfortable. It's only natural. But for millions of people, this goal is difficult to achieve due to excess hair on the face and body. While the problem of excess hair can result from many causes, the impact is often the same: a feeling of awkwardness or embarrassment at work, at home; or in social situations.

Susan Davina has a very gentle touch, and her many Electrolysis clients can attest to their great results and comfort level. Even if you have had laser, you know that it only reduces the hair. Electrolysis (permanent hair removal) can completely eliminate any unwanted, excess hair. So if you want to safely remove hair permanently, call me and come in for a free consultation.

You my have tried home permanent hair removal preparations and devices available from pharmacies, salons, and even through the mail. While many of these will remove your hair, they will only do so temporarily. Permanent hair removal? Definitely not.
Here's how hair removal works:

On your first visit, your electrologist will ask you for a detailed medical history to help identify any pre-existing medical conditions. They will then explain how the treatment will be performed. Because hair grows in cycles and can best be eliminated during its growth cycle, successful Electrolysis requires a series of scheduled treatments. These treatment sessions typically last from 15 minutes to an hour.

Electrologists permanently remove hair by applying a small amount of electrical current to the base of the hair follicle by means of a disposable probe. The energy from this hair fine probe destroys the growth center of the hair follicle. The probe never actually punctures the skin; rather, it is inserted into the natural hair opening formed by the hair follicle.

How Electrolysis Works

The first recorded account of electrolysis was in 1875 when Charles Michel used it to treat ingrown eyelash hairs. Since that time, this FDA-approved treatment has been touted as the only effective method for permanently removing hair.

Electrolysis is a treatment that uses an electric current to permanently remove undesirable hair. A thin, insulated needle is gently inserted into the small opening that is naturally formed by the hair follicle. The electrologist sends a tiny electrical current to the base of the follicle. The current damages the root of the hair follicle, preventing future hair growth.

What Areas of the Body Can Electrolysis Treat?

Electrolysis can effectively treat most regions of the body where unwanted hair grows. Clients most commonly seek treatment for the:

  • Bikini line
  • Legs
  • Eyebrows
  • Lip
  • Chin
  • Underarms
  • Toes and fingers
  • Back
  • Breasts
  • Abdomen

What Can I Expect From My First Appointment?

Your first visit is a free consultation, where you will be asked to fill out a detailed medical history. This helps identify any pre-existing conditions and contraindications. Your electrologist will examine the area being treated and explain the treatment process.

If you decide to move forward with electrolysis, you will schedule your first in a series of treatment sessions. Treatment sessions last between 15 minutes and one hour.

How Many Electrolysis Sessions Will I Need?

The number of sessions needed to permanently remove the hair varies from one person to the next. There are a number of factors that impact one’s treatment length, including:

  • Treatment area
  • Type of hair growing in the treatment area
  • Where each individual hair is in its growth process

Sessions are scheduled every one to two weeks and continue until the unwanted hair is permanently removed.

Why Do I Need So Many Electrolysis Treatments?

New hairs go through several stages in their growth cycle. Once the follicle produces new growth, the individual hair goes through an active growth phase. This is known as the anagen phase. At the end of the anagen phase, the hair transitions, rests, and is then shed by the body.

Each individual hair is at a different stage in the growth process. To permanently remove hair, electrolysis must occur during the anagen phase. Scheduling multiple sessions ensures each follicle is treated at the correct time in this cycle.
